Understanding neck pain
Neck pain may relate to muscles, joints, discs or nerve irritation. Pain extending into an arm may suggest cervical radiculopathy, but assessment is needed.
Careful assessment
Dr Ward reviews symptom patterns, neurological findings, previous imaging and treatments. The purpose is to identify a sensible plan and recognise when another specialist opinion is needed.
Managing symptoms
Management may involve exercise-based rehabilitation, activity modification, medication review and selected specialist interventions where appropriate.
When to seek urgent assessment
New or progressive arm or leg weakness, difficulties walking or loss of hand dexterity warrant prompt medical assessment.
This information is general and is not a diagnosis. If you have rapidly progressive neurological symptoms or new bladder or bowel problems, seek urgent medical assessment.
